Tel Big Brother, Argos Panoptes, géant de la mythologie grecque, possède la capacité de veiller constamment autour de lui. Doté de cent yeux, il ne quitte pas de regard Io, amante de Zeus tourné en génisse blanche pour la protéger de la colère de Hera.

Partant de ce mythe, je construis un objet qui, par usage du bois et du laiton, rappelle les instruments de mesure lié aux voyages lointains et l’industrialisation, mais surtout l’esthétique des premiers appareils photographiques, ainsi que les principes d’architecture panoptique. Couvert autant de judas que d’œilletons de branches, cette boîte devient un être vivant tripode, omniscient, caché dans une carapace cubique. Est-il toujours en vie, là, à l’intérieur ? Est-ce qu’il nous regarde, est-ce qu’il nous voit ?

Like Big Brother, Argos Panoptes, the giant from Greek mythology, has the ability to constantly watch over his surroundings. Equipped with a hundred eyes, he never takes one glance off Io, Zeus' lover turned into a white heifer to protect her from the wrath of Hera.
Taking this myth as my starting point, I designed an object that, through its use of wood and brass, recalls the measuring instruments used for long-distance travel and industrialisation, but above all the aesthetics of the first cameras, as well as the principles of panoptic architecture. Covered as much with peepholes as with branch eyelets, this box becomes a tripod, omniscient living being, hidden in a cubic carapace. Is it still alive inside? Is it looking at us, can it see us?
